About 40% of this algae is algin or alginic acid, a polysaccharide that among its properties has the ability to absorb and retain ten to twenty times its own gravity in water. For these reasons, cochayuyo is a very useful algae to use as a fertilizer or natural fertilizer for our plants.

It is recommended to let the cochayuyo rest overnight in vinegar water. Then boil for about 15 minutes. Once the cochayuyo is cooked, wash in cold water. Cook to taste.
